The CPSAC board of directors is composed of members from across Canada. Our board is composed of some of the most motivated and knowledgeable individuals in the country, each of whom have donated countless hours to child passenger safety.

What are the board positions, how does that work?
Members elect individuals to the board in general, but not to a specific role or position. There are 4 defined roles that we assign amongst ourselves including President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, leaving the remaining four as “members-at-large.”

Our board member terms are staggered, with four elected each year to a two-year term. Currently, members Shapka, Froom, Gudmundsson, and Stacey have terms that are up in early 2019, and Hutka, Brickell, Harder, and Neville have terms that are up in early 2020.

What other specific roles are there?
One doesn’t have to be on the board of directors to be in an appointed role. For example, Jen Shapka served as Registrar for several years before joining the board of directors and our webmaster continues in the role despite no longer being on the board.

How does voting work?
Board members can make motions. Each board member has a vote when a motion is made. In the case of a tie, the president’s vote can break the tie. The board approves policies and votes on motions brought forward by other board members, on behalf of committees or individuals.

How and when does the board meet?
The board meets virtually via online meeting software, like a conference call. There are also ongoing discussions online and via email.
